Do clothes really maketh the Man?

Well, it seems that not everyone is enamoured of my sartorial splendour, such as it is.

In fact, one individual went so far as to recently complain to the insurance company I was working on behalf of in regards to my dress sense.

Personally, I just don't get it.

How does what I choose to wear affect my ability to do my job?

I guess the claimant expected someone sporting the 'ex-cop' look - something I do not aspire to since I am not the aforementioned ex-police.

I choose not to wear dress pants and business shirts because I generally don't want to look like a used-car salesman and because, being self-employed, I can wear whatever I damn well want. And it's not like I was wearing one of the admittedly awesome t-shirts from T-shirt Hell like this, because even I know better:

Possibly not for work wear.
Unless, maybe, you are an abortionist.

Also, given that I had to drive some five and a half hours to undertake this particular interview, I'm going to choose something for comfort. Hell, it's not like my clothes were unclean or anything.

Quite frankly, I also think that under-dressing for the occasion also served another purpose in that people perhaps are more prone to underestimate you.

And in this profession, that is generally an advantage.

Anyway, it does piss me off. If it is a valid criticism about the way I do my job, fine. That I can accept. However this seems like nothing more than a spurious complaint, perhaps in order to obtain a favourable outcome with the insurer.

It's not like I complained about the fact she was only wearing a robe when I arrived for the interview even though it was in the middle of the afternoon - and the interview was scheduled, so it wasn't like she didn't have the opportunity to dress appropriately beforehand.

Height of hypocrisy, really.
