Another Day, Another Rejection

Yeah, it's another one of those moments.

So the job advert sounded ideal. A part-time contract investigator was sought locally for a PI firm and as I already act as a part-time contract investigator for a number of out-of-town firms, what could possibly go wrong this time?

It kind of played out in three short sentences.

Them: Are you ex-police?

Me: Well, no, but I have been doing this for 9 years now and...

Them: Not interested. Sorry.

Oh, they tried to explain that this wasn't their own policy but it was the expectation of their clients that investigators working on their behalf were ex-police. 

Naturally, it's all bollocks.

Since when do clients stipulate as to the backgrounds of investigators working on their particular files? I've never heard of such a thing and, certainly, while I have been asked (on the very odd occasion) if I was ex-police by a client, no-one has ever taken their case elsewhere because I wasn't.

This makes me simultaneously sad and angry because my skills and experience count for absolutely nothing, and never will, in this regard.

Well, Dear Reader, the winds of change may be a-blowin' if  things go my way.

Which they won't.

But if for some reason, and against all odds, they do, I may be a down-and-out Private Investigator no longer and actually find myself in gainful employment.

Yep, working for the man.

Doing what, you might ask?

Yep, definitely little people...

Just had another of those "if you're not cop" moments.

Maybe I'm expecting too much.

Normally, I don't comment on active files but this one deserves a mention.

It all started with a car that was stolen just after Christmas...

If you're not cop, you're little people.

Sadly, this belief seems to be deeply ingrained within some of our law enforcement brothers (and sisters). Worse, it is all too evident in some whose position is in a 'customer service' role. They are the first contact a citizen has with the constabulary, when coming forth to make a complaint.

You'd think that perhaps that perhaps the police might give these staff some special training in regards to effectively dealing with the public in a manner that won't alienate or mariginalise them?

No.
