The time has very nearly come, Dear Reader, where I need to retire my trusty old H3 Traser P6500 tritium watch. I can't remember when I purchased it, but it's probably getting on to around 10 years ago.
That's not the reason why the watch needs to be retired. Well, not directly anyway.
No, the tritium has faded to the point where I can't really tell the time all that well in the dark anymore - kind of the whole point in having a radioactive watch in the first place.
To be fair, they did say that you do get about 10 years usage, so that's about right.
So what to get next?
Firstly, while you can still purchase the same model (such as through the Amazon link above) I am a bit dubious as to the age of the watch. That model is no longer current and the price is about a third of what I paid for mine at the time.
There are other contenders from H3 and the closest is the P6508 'Code Blue' but maybe I'm just not a fan of the blue tritium.
Slightly pricier is the P6506 'Commander' Titanium, which is probably more along the lines of what I'm after. Just wish they didn't bother with the date window.
I've been quite happy with the old P6500 and will be a little sad to see it go.
Yes, I know there are plenty of other watches with tritium, such as from Luminox (if you can get past the high 'Navy SEAL, Navy SEAL, PS: as worn by Navy SEALs' wank factor marketing).
Any recommendations?
Even non-tritium watches considered.
