Discretion Assured!

I have commented previously, Dear Reader, on my inherent cynicism for the world of marketing and advertising.

It's just all such utter bullshit, isn't it?

From the perspective of a PI business, I think traditional marketing approaches simply are a waste of time and money.

Time I have. Money, not so much.

A recent comment from a friend reminded me of a laughably naive attempt to generate some business through an advert in the local daily rag's classifieds section some years ago.

I don't recall the exact wording of the classified, but I wanted to maintain a bit of mystery and intrigue as perhaps that might generate a bit more interest and at least stand out from the other ads.

Something under the headline of DISCREET SERVICES AVAILABLE.

It appears there is such a thing as being too discreet. And too vague.

The only phone call I received was from some creepy old guy who wanted to know, in excruciating detail, exactly what kind of services we offered and how much it would cost him? When I stated we are private investigators, he immediately hung up.

Just then the penny dropped.

Needless to say I never bothered pursuing that particular angle again.
