Case A: Surveillance on a sex offender who may be breaching his parole conditions.
Case B: Background investigation into a possible fraudster who is also threatening to kill family of victim if she ends her relationship.
Case C: Further work on Mrs Crusoe's case.
And if that wasn't enough to keep me occupied, which it is, even my 'routine' cases are anything but. A simple field visit regarding payment defaults has now also turned into a fraud investigation as many details provided in credit application have since turned out to be entirely false.
What is worse, when questioned about this the individual continued to lie about a number of other details which have been since discounted as complete fabrication. This was *after* she was warned that providing false details in her documentation is fraud and therefore a Criminal, not Civil, matter.
Also, from preliminary enquiries, it would appear that this is only one of many frauds this person (and her mother) have perpetrated. Not to mention that the mother is a nice piece of work - junkie, thief, prostitute.
Classy!
Man, you really do get to have some fun, dealing with the scum of the universe. Mind you, if everyone was an upstanding citizen and a pillar of society then you'd be out of a job... and bored.
ReplyDeleteTo tell you the truth, it's not all that much fun at times. Still, to steal a line from a favourite character in a favourite film: "...I got bits falling off my ship, I got a crew ain't been paid... and, oh, yeah, a powerful need to eat sometime this month."

On a hunch, do the mother and daughter combo not see anything wrong with what they're doing? In that they believe if they successfully dupe someone, then it's that person's fault for being duped?
ReplyDeleteWhile I can understand that line of reasoning, I believe that in this particular case it was simply a matter of thinking they could get away with it and that the matter would not come back to bite them on the arse.
